Answers to Missionary Proofs from the Book of Second Samuel

Return to Answers to Missionary Proofs

Jesus was from David's seed.

Prophecy:
II Samuel 7:12: When your days are finished and you shall lie with your forefathers, then I will raise up your seed that shall proceed from your body after you, and I will establish his kingdom.

Proof:
Matthew 1:1,6: (1) The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham … (6) and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her [who had been the wife] of Uriah.

This prophecy is referring to Solomon.

II Samuel 7:13-16: (13) He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. (14) I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son; so that when he goes astray I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of Adam. (15) But My mercy shall not depart from him as I withdrew it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. (16) And your house and your kingdom shall be confirmed forever before you; your throne shall be established forever."

This seed of David will build a house for God.
I Kings 8:12-13: (12) Then Solomon said, "The Lord said that He would dwell in the thick darkness. (13) I have surely built You a house to dwell in; a settled place for You to dwell in forever."

This seed of David’s will go astray and be corrected by God. (Christians claim that Jesus never sinned.)
I Kings 11:4, 11-12: And it was at the time of Solomon's old age, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not whole with the Lord, His God, like the heart of David his father. … (11) And the Lord said to Solomon, "For as this has been with you, and you have not observed My covenant and My statutes which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and I shall give it to your servant. (12) However, in your days I will not do this, for the sake of David your father; from the hands of your son I shall tear it.

It is very clear that this supposed messianic prophecy is really talking about Solomon.

Jesus is not of the line of David.

Jesus supposedly did not have a biological father.
Matthew 1:18: Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

However, the tribal lineage (in this case from David’s line) comes only from the biological father.
Numbers 1:18: and they assembled all the congregation on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees according to their families according to their fathers' houses; according to the number of names, a head count of every male from twenty years old and upward.

This means, that in the simplest example, Jesus is found not to be from David’s seed.

Jesus was the son of G-d.

Prophecy:
II Samuel 7:14: I will be to him a father, and he shall be to Me a son; so that when he goes astray I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the sons of Adam.

Proof:
Luke 1:32: He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

(12) However, in your days I will not do this, for the sake of David your father; from the hands of your son I shall tear it.

It is very clear that this supposed messianic prophecy is really talking about Solomon.

Jesus was from David's house whose throne will be established forever.

Prophecy:
II Samuel 7:16: And your house and your kingdom shall be confirmed forever before you; your throne shall be established forever.

Proof:
Luke 3:31: …[the son] of Melea, [the son] of Menan, [the son] of Mattathah, [the son] of Nathan, [the son] of David…

Revelation 22:16: "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star."

Jesus never served as a king and had no access to David's throne.

Jesus is not a descendant of David.

This means, that in the simplest example, Jesus is found not to be from David’s seed and has no legitimacy to the eternal throne.

Jesus had gentiles flock to him.

Prophecy:
II Samuel 22:44-45: (44) And You have allowed me to escape from the contenders amongst my people; You shall keep me as head of nations; a people whom I have not known serve me. (45) Strangers lie to me; as soon as their ears hear, they obey me.

Proof:
Matthew 8:10: When Jesus heard [it], He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!

This entire chapter is David praising God for delivering him from his enemies.

II Samuel 22:1: And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song, on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul…

Verse 44 states “You have allowed me to escape from the contenders amongst my people…” Did this happen to Jesus?

Matthew 27:20, 26 (20) But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. … (26) Then he released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered [Him] to be crucified.

Obviously Jesus did not escape from the “contenders amongst [his] people”.

This part of the verse refers to David escaping from Doeg, Ahithophel, Saul, and the Ziphites.

Verse 45 – in context – refers to David speaking about all his enemies who hear of him and Hashem’s strength and protection of David. These people who do not know David but hear of him will be so fearful that they would obey his orders.
